Oluyemi Oluleke Osinbajo was born on 8th March 1957 in the city of Lagos at Creek Hospital, Lagos. Oluyemi Osinbajo is a Nigerian politician and a lawyer who is currently the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Also, He is a Pastor, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), a Professor of Law, and a Senior Partner with Simmons Cooper Partners, a commercial law practice until his inauguration as the vice president of Nigeria on 29 May 2015.

He is married to Oludolapo Osinbajo, who is the granddaughter and daughter of Otunba Olubusola Soyode of the late great political thinker, Nigerian nationalist, and statesman who was involved in the struggle for Nigerian independence, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Yemi Osinbajo and Oludolapo Osinbajo were joined on November 25th, 1989 and they have three (3) children in common; Kiki, Kanyinsola, and Fiyinfoluwa Osibanjo.

Before his inauguration as the vice president of Nigeria, Osinbajo was the pastor-in-charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 48, Ikoyi, and his wife, Dolapo, the leader of the Ladies Fellowship in the same church.

Yemi Osinbajo’s early years of primary education were at Corona Primary School in Lagos. His secondary education was at Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos, between 1969 to 1975 where he won many awards including the State Merit Award (1971); the School Prize for English Oratory (1972); Adeoba Prize for English Oratory (1972-1975); Elias Prize for Best Performance in History ( WASC, 1973), African Statesman Intercollegiate Best Speaker’s Prize (1974) and School Prize for Literature (HSC, 1975). President Goodluck Jonathan conferred on Osinbajo the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger on May 28, 2015.

He pursued his undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Lagos, where he was awarded an LLB Law degree from 1975 to 1978. It was during this period that he also won the Graham-Douglas Prize for Commercial Law. Furthering his education, got his Master of Laws after attending the London School of Economics & Political Science in 1981.

In 1979, he successfully concluded the compulsory one-year professional training at the Nigerian Law School where-after, was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of Nigeria’s Supreme Court.

Appointed as the Head of Public Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. Between 1988 and 1992, he was made the Special Adviser to the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Later on, Yemi Osinbajo was appointed the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in 1999 and re-appointed for a second term in 2003. He was also a senior lecturer at Lagos State University.

Yemi Osinbajo served as a member of staff of the United Nations and a Member of the United Nations Secretary General’s Committee of Experts on Conduct and Discipline of UN Peacekeeping personnel around the globe. He served as an Ethics Advisor to the Ethics Committee of the African Development Bank and a non-executive Director of Citibank.

During the early days of his public service, he started the Lagos State justice reform project. An outstanding attribute of that project was the establishment of the Directorate for Citizens’ Rights (DCR) which gives free legal services and legal representation to indigent citizens of the state. This drive gave a voice to many who may have otherwise not had a way to access their rights.

As a Pastor, Osinbajo has organized numerous initiatives that drive toward social justice. He organizes the Liberty Schools Project that supplies free primary school education with free school lunches to poor children.

This Project has three (3) sites in some poor villages in Obanikoro, Ikota, and Makoko, all situated in Lagos. Some other initiatives include free health care facilities, free legal services, social rehabilitation, skills acquisition for the poor, a day-to-day soup kitchen service, and free shelter for young people without accommodation.

He is a retired Ambassador for the Environment in Lagos. He has also helped analyze financial issues at “Daystar Christian Center and “The Platform” and has a huge wealth of experience.
