In this guide, we will walk you through how to connect your solar systems. We assure you that the process is easy and simple. If you follow our tips, you won’t encounter any issues.

Why Do You Need an Inverter and Batteries?

Solar panels generate direct current (DC) type of electricity from the sunlight. However, most appliances in our home do not make use of direct current.

Instead, they use alternating current (AC) to power our appliances. This is where inverters come in.

The work of an inverter is to convert DC power from the solar panels into AC power that we can use in our home.

On the other hand, batteries help to store excess electricity that is produced during the day.

This will allow you to make use of solar power at night or when it is raining or cloudy.

The essence of this setup is to make sure that you have a steady power supply even when the sun is not shining.

How to Connect Solar Panels to an Inverter and Batteries

1. Choose the Right Components

Before you start connecting, you must make sure that you are choosing the right components. What we simply mean is that your solar panels, inverter, and batteries should be very compatible.

Try checking the voltage and capacity of each of these components to avoid any issues when connecting them.

The solar panels help to capture sunlight and generate DC electricity.

The charge controller is responsible for regulating the power that comes from the solar panel. This is to prevent the battery from overcharging.

The battery stores energy that can be used later in the day.

The inverter converts DC power that is gotten from the batteries into AC power that can be used at home.

2. Install the Solar Panels

Try to mount your solar panels in a location that is going to get maximum sunlight. We highly recommend the rooftop.

Secure them properly so that they will be able to withstand different weather conditions.

When wiring the solar panels, you can connect them in series (to increase the voltage) or parallel (to increase the current). Also, use solar cables that are durable so that the panels can be connected safely.

3. Connect the Charge Controller

A charge controller is also very important because it helps to prevent the batteries from getting overcharged. Make sure you connect the solar panels.

You are to use the correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative). Then, proceed to connect the charge controller to the batteries.

4. Connect the Batteries

Batteries help to store the electricity that is being generated by the solar panels.

If you want to increase the voltage of your battery, you should connect the batteries in series (positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of another).

If you want to increase the capacity, then you connect it in parallel (positive to positive, negative to negative).

Try to use fuses or a circuit breaker that will help to protect the batteries from potential electrical surges.

5. Connect the Inverter

Now that your batteries are ready, it is time to get your inverter connected.

Begin with the DC connection. To do this, connect the inverter to the battery terminals (positive to positive, negative to negative).

After that, do the AC connection. Connect the inverter’s AC output to your home’s electrical system or directly to the appliances, depending on which one is preferable to you.

6. Test the System

Once you correctly connect everything, you should check if the system is working properly.

Firstly, turn on the solar panels and measure the power output to make sure the charge controller is regulating the voltage correctly.

Also, don’t forget to check if the inverter is converting DC to AC and powering your appliances as it should.

Safety Tips When Connecting Solar Panels to an Inverter & Batteries

If you want to ensure that you connect your panels to an inverter and battery correctly, then you must follow these safety tips:

Always double-check all the connections before you turn on the system.

We advise that you use high-quality cables to prevent potential power loss and fire hazards.

Do not forget to install a fuse or circuit breaker. This will help protect your system against any electrical fault.

If you are unsure of what you are doing, you should hire professionals to help you install the system correctly.

Remember, this is what we do at ArenaHub. You can always contact us to get your solar system installed properly.

Why Use Batteries in Your Solar System?

If you are curious about why you should use batteries for your solar system, there are lots of benefits that come with using batteries in your solar system.

With batteries, you can easily use the power stored during the daytime at night.

This means you rely more on solar power and less on the national grid.
